    Election Day

    Election Day Open Thread

    by: Tim Kelly

Tue Nov 04, 2008 at 08:06:59 AM EST

NOTE: If you want to post photos and don't have a Photobucket or some other account to upload them to and link to, please email them to tk@indigojournal.com.  I'll upload them and send you the link for displaying.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

I went out to vote right at 7 this morning, so I could get it done before my wife left for work and I wouldn't have to drag the kids out later.  The line at my Richland County precinct was already about 200 yards long, and I would estimate the wait at about an hour.  Had to head back and make plans to go out later.

Before you get too excited, I would not expect most of those people in my precinct to be turning out to vote for Obama.  However, I do hope it shows enthusiasm for the District 5 bond referendum.

Post your election updates here throughout the day, and if you're using Twitter, make sure you use the #sc2008 tag so your tweets show up in the "SC Election Updates" widget to the right.

    Election Day Coverage

    by: Tim Kelly

Mon Nov 03, 2008 at 19:08:17 PM EST

Later tonight, we'll put up an Election Day open thread that will remain on the front page throughout the day tomorrow.  We invite you to post your thoughts and experiences there if you feel it doesn't merit a post of its own.  As results begin to come in tomorrow evening, we'll have probably set up several threads for the presidential, Congressional and legislative races.

We also invite you to follow us on Twitter for updates as well.

Finally, in the right navigation bar, we've placed South Carolina Election Updates.  This is a special Twitter feed from Indigo Journal and several other South Carolina blogs, featuring real time election day updates from around the state.  If you're a Twitter user, use the tag "#sc2008" in your tweets, and they will show up in this feed as well.

The Witching Hour: Dirty Tricks Alert

    by: Tim Kelly

Sat Nov 01, 2008 at 11:34:51 AM EDT

Yep, Halloween is over, but today marks the real witching hour in electoral politics.

That's because today through Monday is when desperate candidates will pull dirty tricks in hopes that the media and other watchdogs won't notice until it's too late to do anything about it.

We can't do much, but if you see any particularly vile fliers, get ever more dubious emails claiming Barack Obama led satanic rituals last night to put the voodoo on Mick Mulvaney, receive  phone calls claiming Rob Miller is the love child of Roger Miller and Madeline Murray O'Hair or just see Spartanburg County GOP Rick Beltram harassing little old ladies trying to vote, post your reports in this thread.

Also, email me to let me know you've posted something.

So what are you doing next Tuesday?

    by: Tim Kelly

Fri Oct 31, 2008 at 16:24:23 PM EDT

November 4 is the Super Bowl for political junkies, and I guess it's sort of an important day for America, too.

While the whole purpose of this site is to provide a truly interactive site for analysis, opinion and action, we want to really open the place on Election Day.

Beginning at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, we'll put up an Election Day Open Thread which will remain at the top of the page all day.  We want you to write there about what you're seeing, what you're hearing, what you're feeling on Election Day.  Email us pictures from your polling place, your candidate headquarters and your election night parties.

We're also working on some enhancements to our Twitter feed to keep you updated all day as well, so if you're not following us at Twitter, head over there and do so between now and Tuesday.

This is probably the biggest election most of us are likely to see in our lifetime.  Be here Tuesday to share it with the rest of us.
