    Can We Create American Jobs Again? Is Renewable Energy the Answer?

    by: dwilson

    Wed Feb 10, 2010 at 11:51:29 AM EST

    Just like our Nation's Capital, our economy is frozen and in a grid lock. We have seen jobs lost and shipped overseas for the last eight years. The Congress is currently working on a jobs bill to help stir the economy. Many say this is a short fix. Others say it is not enough. There is a notion that we cannot create good American Jobs again. We must look at what the last generation did. They invested in short term and long term programs. We need to do the same. There is an energy bill in the senate that can create a whole new industry for America. This industry will bring immense power to our country and promote us to the main innovators of the 21st century. This is the Renewable Energy Industry. Many, whom are opposed to this, believe that it will cost too much. However, 93% agree that it is better to pay a cost now then to ship money overseas to pay for oil which also helps fund terrorism. So we must invest for our future to protect our jobs, our family, and our country. Douglas Wilson, Editor and Chief www.politicsispower.com

    UPDATED: SCGOP jokes about jobs while South Carolinians are out of work

    by: SC New Democrats

    Fri Dec 18, 2009 at 15:00:25 PM EST

    ( - promoted by Jennifer Read)

    UPDATE: Just a couple hours after this post was originally published, the SCGOP deleted their blog post AND video joking about South Carolina unemployment, blaming the President of the United States for the state's record unemployment numbers, inconveniently released just 1 day after the SCGOP's latest foray into political humor.

    It looks like we're not the only ones who realize that South Carolina is suffering from a lack of leadership on the issues that really matter.  Denying SC-ers unemployment benefits and property tax cuts on second homes, all while only paying lip-service to the real issues--its all one big joke to the SCGOP.

    --

    For a couple weeks now, the SC Republican Party has had been taking cheap political shots at Barack Obama, asking him, personally, "Where's [sic] the jobs?"  Well, we thought maybe they knew something we didn't there for a while there, but today's unemployment numbers show otherwise.

    A Plan to Get South Carolina Working Again

    by: Dwight Drake for Governor

    Thu Oct 22, 2009 at 16:59:55 PM EDT

    Cross-posted on Daily Kos.

    My experiences have taught me what it takes to build successful economic efforts in South Carolina.  So, like many others who are concerned about the current economic condition of our state, I am deeply embarrassed by a Governor who has been completely missing in action on the jobs front.  At this point, our Governor isn't just absent in our economic development efforts; he's actually an impediment that we have to work around in order to get anything done.   South Carolina's families deserve better than the struggling economy and soaring unemployment that we're experiencing.  That's why I am running for Governor: to get South Carolina back in the jobs business and to get South Carolina working again

     I feel so strongly about jobs because more and better jobs are the answer to South Carolina's problems.  With a Governor who is truly engaged and focused on creating more jobs and growing businesses, we can help address our fiscal problems, improve our schools, and strengthen our families.  And I wholeheartedly subscribe to the old saying that a good job is the best government program.  South Carolinians should know that as Governor, I will wake up in the morning thinking about how to create jobs, and I will go to bed every night thinking about how to create jobs.  There is no more important and fundamental issue in this election - and indeed for the future of our state - than jobs. And as Governor, no one will work harder than me to bring jobs to South Carolina.

    The next Governor needs to lay out a wide-ranging agenda for immediate improvement and long-term transformation of South Carolina's economy.   Today I released the initial installment of the major economic action items that I think are necessary for our people to have not only the hope but the reality of better jobs for a better future. The complete plan is available on my web site. Read the full entry to see the top line bullets of my plan.

    Repower South Carolina to Deliver over 1,300 Letters and Petitions to Sen. Graham

    by: Repower South Carolina

    Thu Sep 17, 2009 at 19:51:52 PM EDT

    On Friday, September 18, The Climate Protection Action Fund’s Repower South Carolina campaign will deliver over 1,300 letters and petitions, written and signed by constituents, to the Columbia district office of Senator Lindsey Graham. Voters are calling for passage of comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation that will create millions of jobs, help end our dependence on foreign oil and solve the climate crisis. Repower South Carolina has over 14,300 members in the Palmetto State.

    A Zogby International poll released in August showed that a majority of American voters — 71 percent — strongly support House-passed clean energy and climate legislation, citing the job growth that would result from enacting new clean energy policies.

    The End of Middle Class America!

    by: robertdobbs

    Sat Jul 18, 2009 at 18:33:11 PM EDT

    In reading the diary by Mr. Sanderson concerning the Georgetown steelmill one couldn't imagine that people in America would not be outraged concerning the job losses to China and Mexico. Americans should be in the streets like the "Tea Parties" or as in Europe and Iran, but they aren't.

    We in America have become too complacent concerning the loss of good paying manufacturing jobs and have accepted the lower paying and lower benefit jobs that have replaced the lost jobs. It is no secret that we Americans work longer, have less time off, and for less money than we did 20 years ago. No decent family can make it working at $8 to $10/hr with either no benefits or very expensive benefits. With even more having little or no healthcare benefits.

    Ross Perot may have seemed crazy back during his 92 campaign but he had it right that NAFTA would produce "a huge sucking sound" as American jobs leave and we needed to end the huge trade deficits with China and make them play on an even trading scale. What happened? Very few listened and no one had the intestinal fortitude to stand up for Amerian workers.

    It is time for Americans to get angry and do something.

    • We should not bail any company out, GM and Chrylser, that turns around and closes plants in the U.S. and shifts operations to China and/or Mexico.
    • We need an "America First" policy. This means the American people get taken care off first before we waste money on ridiculous wars, foreign aid, or bailouts.
    • We all could have healthcare with the money that was and is being wasted in Iraq and Afghanistan;
    • We should have no one homeless;
    • We should have no one without a means to take care of themselves or their family;
    • We should have no child without a decent education and all schools should be ranked the best, not from 1 to 50; and
    • We should have our decent paying jobs back and a strong middle class.

    This is what made America great and made us the shining light in the world. It is time to fight for "America First."
